Goodbye Myanmar

Today is the second day in Myanmar I will wear jeans. Why? because I am leaving and there is no way the jeans would fit in the bag too. Seriously,  don’t bring jeans to Myanmar, they are too hot and they will never dry during the raining season.

My last week here has been great too. What have I been up too besides creating the final (statistical) model for my thesis? Two things, firstly the circular train ride in Myanmar. Surprisingly, the train was only 6 minutes late and hasn’t stopped a single time unnecessarily. Three hours ride for only 16 cents. Sounds great, but the speed was not very impressive and it is certainly more shaky than the dutch trains. Though a great view and a nice chance to breath some out of Yangon.

Now I hadn’t been really introduced to nightlife in Myanmar, but we heard about this (gay) party organised by FAB a group which is lobbying for more LGTB rights here in Myanmar. Sadly but true people can still get prosecuted here. Nevertheless there was a great reason to party due to the legalisation of gay marriage in the US. I have to admit that it was a great party as well as the athmosphere, everybody was welcome. Hopefully they make big improvements here soon too.

It is time to say goodbye to Myanmar now though. I have had an amazing experience here with a little culture shock every now and then. For me this is what makes travelling so addictive. It is great to see beautifull sights and buildings in other countries, but nothing beats the experience of a new culture and meeting so many new people which makes you questioning your own life and habits.

Goodbye Myanmar!  I will certainly miss you. But, I cannot deny that I am super super happy to see my Boyfriend again.

Next stop: Bangkok!
